A artist of great experience and unique style, Joseph Maxwell is widely recognised as an important contemporary Scottish painter.
After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1951, he soon became a regular exhibitor with many societies and was elected a member of the SSA in 1956 and the RSW in 1960.
A few years later he moved to a new teaching post with Dundee College of Education, becoming Principal Lecturer in 1970.
Taking early retirement in 1980, he then conducted art seminars in Scotland and abroad and has now developed his own Scottish studio for group tuition.
